The unique cleaning and refining process has been developed over decades, and includes double dust removal, and in addition, warm water pampers and perfect purity to ensure the absolute purity of the down and feathers. In practice, there is no dust in the filling of the Joutsen down products. The down has also been meticulously cleaned of all sensitising ingredients that could cause allergic reactions. In 2005, Joutsen became the first down duvet and pillow manufacturer awarded by the Finnish Allergy, Skin and Asthma Federation, with products suitable for people with allergies.

Responsibly and Ethically produced
Only ethically produced down is used, that is a secondary product from the food industry. All down comes within the farms of EU, which provides good conditions for the birds. Finnish goose down and hand-collected eiderdown from abandoned nests are used in some of our bedding. Joutsen is a part of EDFA (European Down and Feather Association), which forbids its members to use down, that has been plucked from living birds.

Safe choice for allergic
Cleanness and safety are important, especially in bedding, since we sleep almost a third of our life. As a sign of cleanness and safety, the Joutsen's down duvets and down pillows have been awarded the allergy label by the Finnish Allergy, Skin, and Asthma Federation. Joutsen does not perform any type of chemical treatment on the down – they only use a multi-phased washing and drying process which removes all dust, dander, grease, and animal-based proteins from the down.
